About onyx
Onyx is a natural stone known for its bold banding and its translucency: many onyx slabs glow when they are backlit. Colours above include Aperol, Ice Blue, Ivory and Verde. Onyx slabs are supplied in South Africa by Union Tiles, Rudis Choice and Marble Classic.
Where onyx works best
Onyx is softer than granite and more delicate than marble, so it is best used where it will be admired rather than worked on hard: backlit bar fronts and feature walls, vanity tops, tabletops and lamps. It needs sealing, and spills should be wiped up quickly.
